Tumble Knock Down? A new Mechanic in Ultimate.
Disclaimer: This is not something I have seened officially confirmed, but as I see many talking about it and have seen a bit of it myself, I wanted to make people aware of it.
So, between the limited play I have had, and countless top players who I've been consuming what they have been talking on, its apparent a new type of hit stun is in that each move has a threshhold for activating. This is still new territory and many have been coming up with explanations for what it is, so I'll try to describe it the best way I can.
Essentially speaking, when reaching a specific % for each move, an added effect of hit stun in the air will apply to them to assist in extended combos.
For example, as I have the most experience with Yoshi I have started to notice it more. Yoshi down throw will confirm into up air, but not below 20% for most of the characters. Once at the right % it will true connect into up air. The problem however is when looking at it in training mode, down throw's kbg is so nonexistent that until about 50% you dont see a height change. Tested on young link, I was able to get it to start at 18%, and it would stop connecting until about 55%, but than the Yoshi Bop % start is roughly 74-76% depending on DI and until about 88%.
Something not as well tested on yoshi but worth noting, is that multi hits that wouldnt work for drag down (bair and dair) at low %, do at mid/high %.
People are being careful about uploading labbed combo strings as twitter is safe but youtube is not, but I emplore people to check out some of the big strings people are doing right now. Notably Falcon and Inkling I've been seeing a lot of lately utilize this tumble knock down for near touch of death combos.
If this isnt adjusted in the confirmed day 1 patch, we could see the meta develop into a 4 stock game, and I fear for those characters who dont truly utilize tumble knock down efficiantly. Any character with high KB finishers are going to greatly benefit from tumble knock down, most notably that ive seen is jigglypuff, ice climbers, wario, cloud and Bayonetta.
