Smash Na Invicta #5 Wrap Up

Daiki (Portugal) - May 2, 2017

If you are from the Portuguese scene you probably know we haven't been so lucky in terms of recording our sets (my laptop broke and here in the North I was the only one with capture card, in Lisbon they sometimes get VODs, as long as Storm gets help transporting his gaming rig) so with Blogs being now a thing here in SSB World I might as well do wrap ups of the events I attend to make up for our lack of VODs.

So, Smash Na Invicta #5 was the fifth iteration of our local in Porto, Portugal, this time around we had 14 attendents, which is alright considering the time of the year and that we are a very small scene.

So the tournament started and since i was the second seed I had a bye, so while I waited for the winner of Agro vs Hug-U I was managing the bracket and calling out the others matches, Agro ended up being the winner of that set and so my tournament run was able to start.

Daiki Vs. Agro

This was my worst performance in the tournament overall ( I don't remember where we went in game 1 and 2 btw), game 1 I did alright, Agro wanted to test out his Marth on me but it didn't work out form him and I had a solid win with my Cloud that match, game 2 Agro goes to his signature Little Mac ( even though he claims he doesnt main Mac it's by far his best character) and things got a little rough, I was careless first stock and he ended up catching me on the ledge getting a really fast stock, so now I'm one stock behind and trying to get that back as fast as possible so the lead doesn't pile up, wasn't really working out, Agro was catching my landings and Little Mac can be a pain in the ass to fight when he has a big lead, I finally ended up taking the stock but he already had dealt quite a lot of percent so he takes game 2, alright it's fine let's go to game 3. For some reason this past week I was playing a lot of DK in friendlies, probably because of how he's been getting a lot more exposure at bigger events and it kinda become a joke with some of my friends, so I pick him up and go Dreamland to see if it can actually do any good, it was surprisingly close match, however I'm a goddam idiot and hit him in the super armor and get blown the hell back by the fsmash costing me that match, funny how I was being patient all match and when it mattered I just turned that switch off, well now he's up 2 games on me, its ok its ok, I can do this, so even though I could probably win the DK I end up choosing Bayo for game 4 since I've beaten him with Bayo before, we go Battlefield and he sadly sd's that match and I win, it was weird SD actually, why was it weird? You see, we had been playing in a 4:3 resolution all this time because that monitor only offered that, we thought it was fine but that was the reason he sd'ed, thanks to the resolution to us it seemed like he would make the ledge by just using side b, but nope, he didn't grab it and fell to his doom. Now we are at game 5 we keep the same characters and go Battlefield again, this time I was the one sd'ing, I buffered my side b to make it back to the ledge but for some reason it didn't come out, hurray now I'm the one falling to my doom :c

So he takes that set 3-2 and Losers Daiki is unleashed.

Daiki Vs. NintenRoy

I don't remember game 1 at all, I should have written this blog sooner sigh ,I just remember it wasn't hard, for some reason in game 2 he counterpicks my Cloud with Mario and we went Battlefield, I take that game as well and changed to DK , why? Meh dunno I just did, we went Battlefield again and I got that game too, so that was it.

Daiki Vs. KLP

I was expecting to fight Spec here, but KLP managed to make the upset in a close 3-2. I don't get Spec, this man plays amazingly well in winners but then he goes to losers and just turns off completely. Now about my match, since I was already on DK I kept him for game 1 vs his R.O.B, I think we went battlefield on that one and I took that game, not sure where he counterpicked me game 2 but he won, it's time to drop the Meme Kong and break some limits, I think we go battlefield again and I get that match, last game he counterpicks me to FD and was probably the closest of all the games but I got that too and move on.

Daiki Vs. Iconizer

Iconizer, before this season started, used to be my demon, now not sure what sure what to calm him, at Invicta #4 I was really happy I finally beat him, this set on the other hand felt quite underwhelming, he went ZSS because he felt like it even though he was playing Cloud for quite a while now ( he should have kept playing Bayo actually, but at the time she hadn’t been nerfed yet so he decided not to although he liked playing Bayo) and that match didn't go that well for him, we both agreed on smashville, I was easily baiting his grabs punishing him with LCS to take the stocks, that match ended with a JV2 for me, game 2 he picked up the Bayo, in way I was happy he was finally playing the character he liked but you could tell he hadn't picked her up in quite while, I beat him game 2 and 3 and move on to Losers Semis to get my revenge on Agro.

Daiki Vs. Agro (Losers Semis)

Revenge indeed, this time around I go Bayo too in all matches, we strike and end up in Lylat, which he should have striked in my opinion, thanks to the tilting he ends up falling off stage with a side b, now I'm with a stock lead in Lylat, you can see it was not the best move from him, I take that match and he counterpicks me to FD, now that match was much better, none of us wanted to over commit and kept our cool, I take game 2. Now it's game 3 and he picks FD, I realize I have been mostly following up with combos so I thought "since i've been going for combos all this time... What if I wait?" It was right call, instead of trying to follow up with a combo I waited and he airdodged, he gets hit in the face with a charged fsmash to guarantee my victory.

Daiki Vs. Daze

I actually don't know what to say, my matches with Daze are a meme, I decide to go Pit and he goes Cloud (Daze's flavor of the week) , with Daze it always ends up in smashville so I agree on it and both of us just screw up everything up, missed punishes, miss inputs, it's just a shitshow, he ends up taking up game 1 and game 2 wasn't much different from the first. So now it's game 3 and I decide to go for the ditto, in a really weird interaction between my Dair and his Nair I end putting myself in awful combo position that I didn't even understand how got there, didn't my Dair connect? How am I here, I was quite confused, he ends up LCS'ing me off stage, I expected him to do that, so I did LCH as soon as I could to avoid that, sadly LCS still caught me and I lost the stock, now Im a stock behind with both of us laughing and surprised with what the hell happened, in the end my sets with Daze are fun but don't feel like a tournaments match at all, meanwhile our friendlies are much more consistent, it's stupid.

So I end my run in 3rd place, my Hexagone brother Bolas ends up taking first place, about damn time he got a tournament win, and he totally did not rip off ZeRo by suddenly having a Lucina, not at all ;)

It was a day well spent, we need to get somethings fixed however, the sun glare was really intense and we need to talk to the venue owner about this problem.

Thank you for reading this blog, honestly not really happy with my writing but at the same time I'm too lazy right now to make a thoughtful revision of this post.
