How i got into smash bros

←/Uzair - May 2, 2017

Hello there, all (or the 2 people reading this), I'm Uzair and i figured i'd share my story on how i got into this game, mostly cause i figured why not. A few years ago, I was at a friend's pool party and before i left, i saw him loading up a wii game, Brawl. I was curious as to what it was so i stayed a bit and my friend just showed me what it was. I loved it alot after i left my friend's house and i figured to get the game myself. I ended up just borrowing the game and then playing through all of subspace myself, with my brother. I was a casual at the point and had no idea of the competitive scene.

It was so much fun to do so, and i really enjoyed it alot. When smash 4 got announced, I was super excited cause i loved brawl and i thought the new one looked stunning. I had finished playing xenoblade before the announcement and was even more excited when i heard shulk got announced, and i'd main him from the start (Was still a casual at that point). I ended up getting the game for 3ds on release date and i had alot of fun with it, mostly playing mario, ike, and shulk at the beginning. When i went on FG 3ds i remember just getting super mad cause i'd always lose to this japanese ness as mario. Looking back on it now, it was hilarious honestly. I ended up transitioning somewhat into competitive during the summer of 2015, mostly playing chars that i liked playing alot.

I know some people have different definitions as to the bar between casual/competitive, but to me it's not even a huge wall at all. So at that point i ended up just being more mindful and beating my friends. I had normally entered in wifi tournaments being held by some of my favorite streamers before and it wasn't much fun for me, mostly cause i had a super bad mindset. Around the time i got into high school, I was basically the worst out of my friend's group there and they'd normally host tournaments every 2nd thursday, which I'd attend. At that point I was taking a break from shulk cause I felt like he just wasn't helping me much. I ended up getting 9th out of about 32-ish people and it was honestly alot of fun.

I ended up getting a twitter and joining some of the smash 4 char discords like mario, falco, and shulk, to be able to learn more, and i ended up making alot of new friends, (and some enemies but eh). It had helped me alot and i ended up being the best in my school that time. When I got a Wii U i mostly just focused on playing smash and having fun.

Unfortunately I was never able to go to tournaments like VErsus, Arcade Odyssey, or Flippers. Mostly cause my parents were too overprotective and still are, which really sucks. I was able to attend a monthly in SWFL but did terrible there. Then I was able to attend a Versus and I did pretty well there thanks to just changing my mindset.

Overall, that's how i got into this game. Much appreciated to those that decided to read through all of this even if it's nothing much anyways. Still hoping to cause somewhat of a splash in my scene and I think that's gonna come soon for me :)
