Matchup Tips

Neutral (1)

Falco

No tips yet.

Mario

As a Mario main, spacing and staying away is key. Falco has a really good neutral-b, that resets your character. Falco's grab game is insane and so is his up-tilt, so staying away and keeping him out with fireballs, then approach with a grab or quick aerial, to start a combo or grab a kill. Try to beat out Falco's moves and options, to then punish with a high damaging string.

Getting off the ledge (1)

Falco

No tips yet.

Mario

For Mario, getting up from ledge depends on how good a characters ledge-trapping game is. Falco's game is about average, so Falco wont be doing much to try to cover multiple options. Down-smash goes on both sides and he could use projectiles but the aren't that useful. Falco would usually go for a hard read and punish with a combo or a smash attack. So your best option here is to be unpredictable. Go for a few different options each time. Try to mix-up when you go for these options too. Be careful, if Falco is punishing, he can and hard.

Recovering (1)

Falco

No tips yet.

Mario

For Mario, recovering is pretty straight forward. Falco doesn't have much to mess up your recovery, besides a few obvious options like edge-guarding with forward-air or back-air. His neutral-b despite only moving straight forward and doing almost no knock back, it could snag your jump or ruin your momentum. Just try to recover low, but go a little high or a little lower each time, to lower the chances of getting edge-guarded.

Landing (1)

Falco

No tips yet.

Mario

As Mario, landing is usually OK. Unless it's against Falco. Falco has huge up-tilt to up-air strings that could send to form 0% to 75% in a single combo. It's even possible to zero-to-death with them. Falco's up-tilt has a really big hitbox and is highly spammable. Once your in the air however, giving up and accepting the hit isn't a good option. Falco's up-air has more range than Fox's and can combo into itself, forward-air, and even back-air. Jumping is usually a terrible option, Falco has the best jump height in the game and will catch you either way. Try your best to mix-up your fastfalls, air-dodges, and DI to lean out of the combo, it could cost you a stock or even the game.

Ledge trapping (1)

Falco

No tips yet.

Mario

As a Mario Main, ledge-trapping is one of Mario's struggles. Up-Smash covers 2 options, but that's about it. Mario needs to go for a hard read, then capitalize efficiently. A common option for Falco mains is to drop getup to double jump forward-air. A great way to maximize your punishing ability is to hold shield by the ledge and wait. Play reaction and punish to what ever option Falco chooses. Try to go for a smash attack to kill or a up-tilt or grab to start a combo. Keep yourself ready and stay patient.

Edgeguarding (1)

Falco

No tips yet.

Mario

For Mario, edge-guarding is usually very efficient against a character with a bad recovery. Falco, has an amazing recovery, he could side-b to up-b and has the highest midair jump in the game. But Mario has tools to beat this. Most Falcos will side-b onstage, or straight to ledge, and only use their up-b when required to do so. Back-air is a fast and powerful tool that beats out Falcos side-b any day. Mario's side-b will reverse Falco and force him to side-b the opposite direction, getting him further off-stage. Then try to use RARs and neutral-airs and capitalize on Falco's situation. You could even use F.L.U.D.D and still gimp or kill him. Still, Falco might try to mix it up, so be ready and stay focused

Juggling (1)

Falco

No tips yet.

Mario

As Mario, juggling is one of - if not the - most important thing about Mario. His up-air strings could rack up percent incredibly quickly, and is his go to option for combos. He can start them off a up-tilt, up-throw, and even a down-throw. Falco could jump put of these, considering his jump height is the best in the game, and Mario can't do much about that. But Mario needs to make sure he's below Falco so his strings could benefit the most from the combo. Mario could end it off with a forward-air or up-b, maybe even a down-air. Once Falco is in the sir, its best to keep him there for as long as possible, and rack up damage or kill

Stage choice (1)

Falco

No tips yet.

Mario

For Mario, Battlefield and Pokemon Stadium 2 are really good choices, as they allow Mario up-air strings to be used more efficiently. Mario's combos also flow a lot better with platforms in mind, so use stages like Battlefield, Pokemon Stadium 2, and Smashville to your advantage. For a counter-pick, Unova or Kalos Pokemon League, are good stages with walls that Mario can take advantage of and platforms that can extend his combos. So play safe and only go in when there is an opening.
